In today’s mail, “The Family of Abigail L. Noyce” received the following:
President Anne Weaver Hart
cordially invites you to attend a ceremony
recognizing the academic accomplishments of our
most accomplished students at the conclusion
of their undergraduate experience at the
University of New Hampshire
That’s right. Anne Weaver Hart herself believes that I am graduating. Someone needs to update their graduating-senior algorithm beyond “Senior, check. Spring semester, check,” such as considering, say, Intent-to-Graduate forms. Isn’t that kind of the point of those?
UPDATE: One of my profs tells me it’s because turnout at the Honors Convocation tends to be a bit weak, so they try to get as many students to show up as possible.

Do you have enough credits to graduate?
And somewhere in their vast database your parents are listed as living here because we get UNH Parent Mail…

Read it more carefully! She never says that you are “graduating,” only that you are “concluding your undergraduate experience.” :)

jodel, I have 96, not counting this semester’s courses. Graduation requires 128. Do they really think I’m carrying 32 credits? I’m almost certain thay Would Not let you do that. I’m not sure it’s physically possible to be that many places at once. And I didn’t realize they know you live there.. especially since Newmarket is listed as my permanent address in a futile bid for them to send me mail at my apartment and not at my campus box.
Jjad, alright, fair enough. But it’s part of commencement, and the invitation notes that Presidential Scholars get a gold cord to wear on their cap at graduation. I’m tempted to go and get my little cord and then next year I’ll have two!

[…] Re this, last week I received from UNH a certificate stating that I have “been designated a Presidential Scholar“. A certificate! Ooh boy! This feels like middle school. […]
